The area was once home to the Tayrona people, and some archaeological remains can be found in the park, the best of which are at Pueblito, found up in the hills and thought to have once been a major town and these days home to a small group of indigenous people. It is seen as a smaller and more manageable alternative to the nearby Lost City trek and can be reached on foot in a full day round trip hike from one of the park's Western entrances.
