Located on Costa Rica's Pacific coast, the Nicoya Peninsula is ideal for those seeking to get off the beaten track. The area is made up of northern Guanacaste Province and southern Puntarenas Province. Their are some excellent surfing beaches such as Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Mal País in the south. Plus Playa Grande. located within Las Baulas National Marine Park. Leatherback turtles nest and hatch at Playa Grande. Olive ridley turtles arrive farther south at Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. The region has several excellent hotels and lodges, including Punta Islita Hotel and the Nantipa Hotel.
