Visit the Kaieteur Waterfalls, the highest single drop waterfall in the world and explore the Amazon rainforest.
The highlight for many on a trip to Guyana is a visit to the Kaieteur Waterfalls, the world highest single drop waterfall, over 700 feet high. Reached by a local flight (where you will also get an aerial view of the falls) to the Demerara River, the Kaieteur Waterfalls are four times higher than the Niagara Falls and twice the height of the Victoria Falls. In such a remote Amazon location, experiencing this natural wonder will be something you will never forget.
Over 80% on the inland region of Guyana is virgin Amazon rainforest. There is a good choice of comfortable lodges to be your base to explore the rainforest. On guided treks in the rainforest or on kayak or boat adventures on rivers such as the Burro Burro River, you will observe jaguar, puma, tapir, giant otter, white faced saki monkey, capuchin monkey, tayra, a family of two-toed sloths and manatees, eagles and hawks (raptors), parrots, toucans, owls, rattlesnakes, spectacled caiman, anacondas, mata mata turtle, and emerald tree boa, harpy eagles, jaguars, a giant otter and West Indian manatees.
