Orangutan tour

Day 1 - Cruising the Seikonyer River

On arrival in Pangkalan Bun Airport, our guide will meet and transfer you to Kumai where you embark your houseboat for a 3-night cruise including all meals and shore excursions. Set sail down the Kumai River to reach Seikonyer River, the main river in Tanjung Puting National Park. Cruising up the Seikonyer river you will notice Nipa Palm, Pandanus, and some kind of trees that growing around the riverbanks. We can also observe wildlife such as many bird species, macaque, proboscis monkeys and orangutan. If time permits we visit the orangutan feeding in Tanjung Harapan in the afternoon, then continuing up river. 

Day 2 - Orangutans at Camp Leakey

After breakfast, we cruise up river to Pasalat Camp, here you can disembark and explore as well as help in planting endemic fruit trees for orangutans. This program supports the national park in replanting trees in the ex-forest fire areas and to increase the number of fruit trees for the animals in this park. We return to the houseboat and sail to Camp Leakey where we visit the information centre as see how Birute Galdikas set up this world famous sanctuary for orangutans in 1971. Spend the afternoon in the forest observing orangutans. Late afternoon we sail to Pondok Ambung and if time permits, before dinner you can opt for a guided trek into the forest for to see the nocturnal animals like tarsiers and tarantulas and hear the sounds of the forest after dark.

Day 3 - Pondok Tangguy and Tanjung Harapan Village

After breakfast, we cruise to Pondok Tanggui, the second orangutan rehabilitation centre. Here, we observe feeding time. Back on board, we sail to Tanjung Harapan village where we meet local villagers and gain an understanding of their lives deep in the forest. We then cross the river to Tanjung Harapan Camp to see the last orangutan feeding at mid-afternoon. We then continue to the Nipa Palm area where you can observe thousands of fireflies. 

Day 4 - Disembark and continue your journey

After breakfast, we sail back to Kumai, where you disembark and transfer to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your flight to your next destination in Indonesia.
