Exploring cultural Yogyakarta

Today we explore Java's cultural jewel, Yogyakarta. We visit the Sultan’s Palace (also known as Kraton) constructed between 1756 and 1790, and a fine example of traditional Javanese sultanate architecture. It is still the residence of the Sultan, a living museum. We also enjoy a cultural performance showcasing Golek Menak Puppet‘s and a classical Javanese poetry performance known as Macapat.

Exploring Borobudur

After breakfast, travel to Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple complex in the world. Now protected by UNESCO, the stunning temple, decorated with 500 Buddha statues and over 2,500 relief panels, remains remarkably intact. After our visit we continue to Pawon and Mendut temples and Candirejo, a typical rural village. We travel by dokar, a local horse cart, crossing small lanes lined with traditional houses and learning about local life. Lawang Sewu & Semarang

This morning we travel to Samarang, stopping at the Gedong Songo Temples complex on the slopes of the Ungaran Mountain. This group of small, 8th-century Hindu temples are among the oldest in Java. Continue to Lawang Sewu, Samarang's most famous landmark and a masterpiece of Dutch colonial architecture. The building was built between 1904 and 1907 as the former headquarters of the national railway of the Dutch East Indies. We then check into your chosen hotel for a 1-night stay including breakfast.

Fly to Pangkalanbun and embark your riverboat

Transfer to the airport and fly to Pangkalanbun. On arrival, our guide will transfer you to Kumai port where you embark a local Klotok boat for a 3-night cruise on a full board basis for your scenic journey on the Kumai and Sekonyer Rivers. We begin on the Kumai River and entering the Sekonyer river that marks the border of the Tanjung Puting National Park. The lush vegetation along the riverbank consists of Nipa palm (a palm tree only found near estuaries as they grow in salty water), slowly replaced by Pandans trees. As you travel upstream, observe many exotic birds and wildlife.

Observing orangutans at Camp Leakey

After breakfast, we cruise upriver observing the wildlife all around us. We arrive at FNPF Camp where we will plant a tree to contribute for Carbon Offsetting. We continue to Camp Leakey where, after an included lunch, we spend the afternoon trekking in the forest observing orangutans.

Orangutans and villages at Pondok Tanggui and Tanjung Harapan

This morning we visit an orangutan rehabilitation centre at Pondok Tanggui observing feeding time. Continue to Tanjung Harapan village and meet local villagers. After lunch, we visit Tanjung Harapan Camp to observe orangutans feeding and playing. You can also opt to join a trek into the forest before dinner to observe nocturnal animals like Tarsiers and tarantulas.

Day cruise to Komodo National Park

After an early breakfast, join a local boat and cruise to Rinca Island where we register at the Komodo National Park office. Enjoy a guided trek and observe Komodo dragons and other animals such as wild deer, water buffaloes and monkeys. Continue to Padar Island and witness the spectacular panorama from the top of the islands. We continue to Komodo Island, the largest and most famous of all islands in Komodo National Park with the largest community of Komodo dragons which we observe on a guided trek. After lunch on boat the boat, we sail to a remote beach for some snorkelling and return to your hotel in Labuan Bajo.
