Panama Canal

This 48 mile waterway links the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and is one of the world's most remarkable feats of engineering. For Panama it also represents a source of pride and symbolises the progression and modernity of their nation, in contrast to their neighbours. The most surprising and picturesque part of the canal is Lago Gatún, an artificial lake which provides a home to an abundance of wildlife and plant species. You can take boat excursions to better understand the scale and mechanics of the canal, see the Miraflores lock in operation and watch the transit of giant ships.
