Arrive in Lima in the morning. You will be met at the airport by our representative who will take you to your hotel for a 2-night stay including breakfast. In the afternoon, take a guided tour of Lima, entirely tailored to your family interests. Suggested sights to visit include the Presidential Palace, Plaza San Martín and the Larco Herrera Museum, with a fabulous collection of ancient artefacts from all over Peru.

Early morning flight to Puerto Maldonado. From here, it's a 45 minute motorboat transfer to our base in mighty Amazon, the Reserva Amazonica Jungle Lodge - one of the world's top eco-lodges where we stay on a full board basis including all excursions for 3 nights.

Refugio Amazonas is a 32-bedroom lodge four hours from the Puerto Maldonado airport. It is ideal for science enthusiasts, soft adventurers and families. Refugio Amazonas is located in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve.
With varnished tropical hardwood floors, rooms are 45 square meters, and have an open verandah that looks out into a roadless, wild tropical rainforest preserve. They are equipped with a mosquito net over large, comfortable beds, two hypoallergenic pillows per person, a hammock, and a reading table. Explore Machu Picchu and return to Cusco
The morning is free to explore. You may wish to climb Huayna Picchu, a steep climb but well worth it for the fantastic views of the valley and a different perspective of Machu Picchu. Alternatively, there is a gentle climb, back along the Inca Trail, to Intipunku the Gate of the Sun, and the first sight one has of the complex if walking the Inca Trail.
In the afternoon take the train to Cusco.
Spend the next 2 nights at La Casona, a beautifully 16th century manor house that has been harmoniously restored reflecting cultures and traditions across centuries. Surrounding the main patio, its 11 suites are provided with chimneys, heated floors and extra-large bathtubs.
