More activities and excursions in the area of Iguassu

Nearby you can visit the huge Itapu Hydroelectric Dam on the border between Paraguay and Brazil, an extraordinary mega structure where you can take a tour of the power plant and see the massive generators which produces large quantities of electricity for bt countries.

Another place of interest a couple of hours from Iguazu in Argentina and Paraguay, are the ruins of a Jesuit Mission founded in early 17th century, which are some of the best preserved ruins of their kind and offering a unique insight into the history of the Jesuit Missions to protect the local indigenous people.

Close to the Iguassu town on the Brazilian side you can visit also the Bird Park for birdwatching.

There are also boat trips from the Argentinean and Brazilian sides, to watch the impressive height of the waterfalls from below. Be prepared to get wet.

With luck, it may also be possible to take a helicopter ride over the waterfalls. Impressive experience, but there is often a queue of people waiting: the helicopter takes 3 persons at the time and the return journey takes 15 minutes, so you can imagine that you may have to wait more than an hour if there are more than 12 persons ahead of you in the queue; and the helicopter has to refuel from time to time, so more waiting.
