The Hotel Santa Teresa is located at the heart of the historic Santa Teresa District on a hill in the centre of the city and also famous for the tram "bonde" that winds up way through the streets. The hotel is under government trust for historic preservation of the City of Rio de Janeiro and is surrounded by gardens with trees, patios and terraces. A taxi is required to travel into the city, although there are some very good restaurants, art galleries, boutique shops and museums in Santa Teresa.
