Arenal Volcano National Park lies with within the lowland rainforest zone, where the climate is typically hot and humid. Daytime temperatures range between 20-30°C, with cooler air at higher altitude.
Dry Season: January to April
The best time to visit Arenal is during dry season, from January to Aril. This period brings more sunshine, clearer skies, and a better chance of seeing the volcano's peak. Early mornings offer the highest visibility, before clouds begin to form.
Rainy Season: May to December
The rainy season runs from May to December, with daily showers typicallyin the afternoon. While the scenery is lush and green, rain and cloud cover can limit visibility of the Volcano. Trails may also be muddy, but wildlife sightings are still excellent.
What to Expect
Weather in Arenal is unpredictable, and the volcano is often shrouded in clouds. Visibility depends on luck and timing - even during dry monthS. If seeing the volcano is a prioprty, aim for multiple nights and early morning excursions to increase your chances.
