The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve provides one of the country's most beautiful and complex ecosystems. The area consists of a private reserve, dedicated to the conservation of the diverse flora and fauna found here and encompasses wind-sculptured elfin woodlands, swamp forests and lush green rainforests with majestically tall trees, festooned with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines, and mosses. Parts of the forest are intersected by deep gorges, where crystal clear waters tumble over rapids and waterfalls. Spectacular wildlife includes jaguars, ocelots, tapirs and a huge variety of birds, best of all the Resplendent Quetzal.
