India has some wonderful national parks, the beautiful Kerala backwaters, mighty rivers, beaches and Himalayan hill stations to explore.

Visit Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan and take a 4 x 4 safari to observe the illusive Indian Tiger, once endangered but due to the efforts of local conservationists numbers are now on the rise. The Asiatic Lion can be observed in Sasangir National Park in Gujarat. In Royal Chitwan National Park, Nepal and discover tiger, leopard, sloth bear and wild bison.

The Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers can be explored by first class river ships. On the Brahmaputra, in Assam, visit Kaziranga National Park, famous for the one-horned rhinoceroses and large herds of Elephant. Sail in the shadow of the Himalayas visiting team plantations, local villages and large river islands. The Ganges is the most sacred river in the world, used every day by locals as a place of homage. The scenery on the river is rural India, where little has changed for years.

Head south to Kerala and the beautiful, serene backwaters where you can take a few days exploring on a local houseboat. Inland from Kochi, you will find rolling hills of tea plantations around Munnar and an excellent nature reserve at Periyar. The best beaches in India are found Kerala and further north in the more touristy Goa.

A visit to the Thar Desert in northern Rajasthan is a special experience, particularly at the Dera Dune Resort where you can take camel rides and admire wonderful sunsets.

The Himalayas provide a mighty border between India, Nepal and Bhutan. Scenic hill stations like Shimla or Dharamsala offer a rich colonial history providing cool in the hot summer months, whilst a visit to scenic Srinagar is equally rewarding.
