Day 9

South Atlantic Ocean

Today we head northeast towards the Falkland Islands, looking out for marine wildlife and exploring the various public areas and facilities of the Sea Spirit. Albatrosses are common here and the ship’s fins help with stability in the event of rough seas. Enjoy briefings and lectures as expert naturalist guides prepare you for your excursions ashore.

Day 10

The Falkland Islands

The remote and sparsely-populated Falkland Islands are a birdwatchers paradise. The ship anticipates visiting one or more of the isolated outer islands where large colonies of penguins and albatross are easily accessible. The Falklands are also a great place to observe marine mammals. Fur seals and elephant seals can be found on sandy beaches while the waters in and around the archipelago are home to various whale and dolphin species. Our route and exploration opportunities are dependent on the weather among these windswept islands.

Day 11

The Falkland Islands

Today we intend to visit Stanley, the charming capital of the Falkland Islands. Attractions within pleasant walking distance along the waterfront promenade include the Falkland Islands Museum, the governor’s house, a cathedral with impressive whalebone arch outside, a war memorial, quality gift shops, pubs, and views of shipwrecks in the harbour.

Day 12

Southern Ocean

The ship now heads east towards South Georgia, passing the remote seabird-covered Shag Rocks and the Antarctic Convergence (the boundary of the Southern Ocean) on the way. Enjoy briefings and lectures to prepare you for your visit to South Georgia.

Day 13

Southern Ocean

A further day sailing on the Southern Ocean.

Day 14

South Georgia Island

We arrive at South Georgia Island, although the route and exploration opportunities in South Georgia are heavily dependent on the weather conditions encountered on the way. The experienced captain and expedition leader will decide the itinerary and continually adjust plans according to the local conditions. You can be sure the best possible advantage will be taken of the opportunities presented to us by mother nature in this wild and remote corner of the world. We take every safe opportunity to go ashore in this amazing place.

South Georgia is a scenic wilderness and an unrivalled paradise for subantarctic wildlife viewing. The islands are said to host upwards of 100 million seabirds, including numerous species of albatross, penguins, prions, petrels, and terns. On beaches such as those at Salisbury Plain and St. Andrews Bay, over 100,000 elephant seals and three million fur seals jostle for space among innumerable penguins including stately king penguins and sprightly macaroni penguins. The recently completed rat eradication program will make this wilderness even more pristine and rich with birdlife.

Day 15

South Georgia Island

Our days in South Georgia are filled with memorable excursions, sumptuous meals, presentations by the ship's experts, and enough incredible scenery and wildlife to fill your camera and overwhelm your emotions. Reach one of the most remote corners of the world that can be safely explored by humans.

You will hope to encounter albatross, prions, petrels, and terns amongst what is thought to be around 100 million seabirds. Innumerable fur and elephant seals lounge on the beaches, whilst a huge variety and volume of penguins await in the breathtaking icescapes.

Day 16

South Georgia Island

Exploring South Georgia Island.

Day 17

South Georgia Island

The bountiful waters surrounding South Georgia are also inhabited by an increasing number of whales. The historical whaling station of Grytviken is now home to the excellent South Georgia Museum managed by the South Georgia Heritage Trust. This is also the final resting place of Ernest Shackleton, the legendary polar explorer.

Day 18

South Georgia Island

Further exploration of South Georgia Island.

Day 19

Southern Ocean

After our fascinating explorations in South Georgia we cruise southwest toward the Antarctic Peninsula. Pelagic seabirds including the majestic albatross are common in these waters and can readily be viewed from panoramic open decks or from exterior stateroom windows and balconies on the M/V Sea Spirit.

Day 20

Southern Ocean

Sailing to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 21

South Shetland Islands & the Antarctic Peninsula

The South Shetland Islands are the northernmost islands in Antarctica and will likely be our first sighting of land. This wild and beautiful island chain contains numerous landing sites with abundant wildlife and historical significance. Among them is Elephant Island, where men from Shackleton’s famous Endurance expedition spent the winter.

The Antarctic Peninsula region contains some of the world’s most impressive scenery and some of Antarctica’s best wildlife viewing opportunities. Protected bays and narrow channels are surrounded by towering mountain peaks covered in permanent snow and immense glaciers. Icebergs of every size and description complete an image of incomparable beauty. Waters rich with krill are home to a variety of whale and seal species. The whole area is alive with penguins foraging at sea and forming large nesting colonies at special places on land.

Day 22

South Shetland Islands & the Antarctic Peninsula

There are also various research stations here, some even with a gift shop and post office. The wilderness of Antarctica is subject to unpredictable weather and ever-changing ice conditions, which will dictate the ship's  route and exploration opportunities. This is a real expedition. Every opportunity will be taken to experience excellent wildlife viewing, amazing scenery and excursions via Zodiac.

Day 23

South Shetland Islands & the Antarctic Peninsula

Immerse yourself in the icy wilderness of this remote and spectacular environment. Enjoy small zodiac boat excursions, get close to the region's abundant wildlife on land and sea and admire towering snow-covered mountains and magnificent icebergs of every shape and size. Large penguin colonies bring the area to life, foraging in the waters and congregating on land.

Day 24

South Shetland Islands & the Antarctic Peninsula

Further south, on the Antarctic Peninsula, we explore the vast Gerlache Strait area containing sheltered bays, accessible wildlife, and stunning scenery.

Day 25

Drake Passage

Enjoy time to relax and reflect upon your time spent in this extraordinary region. Attend presentations and workshops and enjoy the on-board facilities of the ship as you return to Tierra del Fuego.

Day 26

Captain's Farewell Dinner

Enjoy the captain's farewell dinner tonight on the last night of your incredible journey.
