Day 1

Fly to Rio de Janeiro 

Fly from the UK to Rio de Janeiro, arriving later the same evening. On arrival you will be met by your guide and transport to be taken to your hotel fro a 3-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Your guide will give you a short introduction to your surroundings and explain the rest of your stay in Rio that can be adapted to your own interests.


Day 2

Full day guided tour of Rio

Today enjoy a full day in the company of your Veloso Tours guide visiting Rio's famous landmarks including the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado mountain with fabulous views of the city. You will pass through the lush forest of Tijuca, with its tropical trees, waterfalls and pleasant shade, before visiting the old centre of Rio.


Day 3

At leisure in Rio  

Spend the day exploring at leisure. There are many things to do according to your interests. Book a Veloso Tours optional excursion (payable locally).

Ipanema Inn Hotel

Day 4

Explore the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls

Transfer to Rio airport for flight to Iguassu. We take a guided tour of the Brazilian side of these mighty falls, walking on walkways above the thunder of the gushing water. Nothing will prepare you for your first sight of this natural wonder; it is truly awesome. The well maintained and located walkways above the falls will provide some superb photo opportunities. 

We then cross the border to Argentina and check into our lodge located close to the Iguassu Falls where we over night including breakfast. The rest of the day is at leisure.

 

La Cantera

Iguazu Falls - Tourist Lodge

Located in the forest outside of the town of Puerto Iguazu, and 15 minutes from the falls, La Cantera Jungle Lodge has rooms distrubited in a series of bungalows connected by raised walkways. The rooms are spacious  and well appointed, with a balcony looking out into the forest as well as private facilities and air conditioning. The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool with a terrace area for relaxing.

Day 5

Iguazu Falls Argentinean side and Buenos Aires

This morning, we take a guided tour of the falls from the Argentinian side (the larger of the two sides), where you will explore this vast area on secure walkways over numerous cascades reaching the largest waterfall of all - Devil's Throat. You will feel refreshed and invigorated.

Later in the day, we transfer to the airport and fly south to Buenos Aires for a 3-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis.


Day 6

Guided tour of Buenos Aires

Today enjoy a guided tour of Buenos Aires - 'The Paris of South America'. We visit the colourful district of La Boca, the main square with the Casa Rosada and Presidential Palace. And continue to the bohemian district of Palermo and elegant Parque de Recoleta with its smart bars and street cafes. In the evening, enjoy the famous nightlife of Buenos Aires - perhaps taking in a tango show.

Day 8

Fly to Lima 

Morning at leisure in Buenos Aires. In the afternoon, fly to Lima, and transfer to your hotel for a 2 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Your guide will introduce you to Lima and advise on the best restaurants and bistros to enjoy. The Peruvian/Asian fusion cuisine is fast becoming a major attraction in Peru's capital city.


Day 9

Guided tour of Lima  

Today we explore Lima on aguided tour visiting the delights of this colonial capital, its main squares, the Presidential Palace and ornate church. We also visit the Larco Herrera Museum which houses a fine collection of pre-Colombian artefacts.

Lima - Tourist Hotel

This small contemporary hotel is located in the heart of Miraflores, with plenty of access to local conveniences such as restaurants and shops. Day 10

Fly to Lake Titicaca 

Transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Juliaca, from where we travel to Puno on the shore of magical Lake Titicaca. We stay for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Time to relax at your hotel and enjoy the views of the lake framed with snow-covered peaks.


Day 11

Exploring Lake Titicaca  

Today enjoy a full day excursion onto the lake, visiting the floating islands of Uros where you will meet the villagers whose lifestyles have remained the same for many years. It is extra-ordinary how these friendly peoples life on floating islands on the lake. We continue to the isolated rocky island of Taquile, famous for their weaving that is done mainly by the men on the island. 

Casa Andina Premium

Puno & Lake Titicaca - First Hotel

The Casa Andina Premium, Puno is a few minutes’ walk outside of Puno city centre, including Lima Street which is very popular amongst tourists and locals alike.

Andean Explorer train to Cusco

This morning, join the luxurious Andean Explorer train for a spectacular daytime journey passing stunning landscapes, remote farms, towering mountains and tiny hillside villages. The trip from Puno to Cusco on  one of the world's highest rail journeys is a real highlight of this tour. Day 13

Sacred Valley of the Incas

Today we enjoy an included full day guided tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas exploring its small villages, hillside terraced fields and the Incas ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac. We also visit the colourful market at Chinchero returning to Cusco late in the afternoon. 


Day 14

Guided tour of Cusco & nearby Inca sites 

Morning at leisure in Cusco. In the afternoon, your guide will show you the best of Cusco including the colonial-era cathedral. We will also visit the Temple of the Sun and explore the nearby Inca ruins at Sacsayhuamán.

Maytaq Wasin

Situated in the heart of the Incan empire, only a few steps away from the main plaza, the Maytaq Wasin Hotel is contemporary in design, boasts high ceiling and plenty of natural light. Visit Machu Picchu 

Today, we depart on the Vistadome train from Cusco following the beautiful Urubamba River leading us to the breathtaking ruins of Machu Picchu. On arrival, enjoy a guided tour of this extra-ordinary wonder of the ancient world. Your guide will bring to life this mountain top citadel of the Inca empire. It is a truly memorable experience. After visiting Machu Picchu, we check into a nearby hotel for a 1-night stay including breakfast.  

Casa Andina Classic

Machu Picchu - Tourist Hotel

Located by train station, the hotel is modern, functional but bland, useful for an overnight stay. The standard rooms have no windows but others look out over the station or behind to the Urubamba river.

Day 16

Return to Cusco

This morning is free to explore the area around Machu Picchu at your leisure. You may wish to climb Huayna Picchu, a steep climb but well worth it for the fantastic views of the valley and a different perspective of Machu Picchu. Alternatively, there is a gentle climb, back along the Inca Trail, to Intipunku: the Gate of the Sun, and the first sight one has of the complex if walking the Inca Trail. In the afternoon, we return to Cusco by train for a 2 night stay with breakfast included. 


Day 17

Cusco

Cusco is one of those places in the world that is so appealing you really won't want to leave. It is a sheer joy observing the locals in their colourful clothing mingle with the tourists in this elegant colonial mountain setting. People-watching in a local cafe is a popular pastime in this enchanting city. So enjoy your final day in the land of the Incas; no doubt still fathoming how the Incas could build such imposing castles, towns and cities high in the Andes. 

Our guide is also on hand today if you want to book any additional optional excursions.


Day 18

Fly to Lima and flight home

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima, connecting to your international overnight flight back to the UK.


Day 19

Arrive in the UK

Arrive in the UK in the morning.
