Guests at the Posada Amazonas can engage with the local community to learn about their history and way of life.
Having encountered the abundant wildlife of the rainforest, become acquainted with its extraordinary flora and admired its towering trees, visiting a local community is a great way to complete your visit to the Amazon and learn about life in the jungle. Guests staying at the Posada Amazonas can, by pre-arrangement, visit the Ese’eja community.
This will allow you to enjoy a varied set of activities and insights, including:
- The Heritage House –tour the central house of the community, home to a heritage museum, where you can see old photos and clothing, traditional tools, ancient ceramics, handicrafts and stone instruments. Demonstrations are given by the locals and you will also have the chance to purchase some souvenirs should you wish, with profits benefiting members of the community.
- Catch and release fishing – the large pool at the local fish farm is reserved for guests to try their hand at some fishing, Amazon-style. Using a traditional fishing cane and under the guidance of locals, guests will fish from the pools edge, returning their catches to the pool or, if desired, given to the local cook to prepare it for lunch.
- Boat ride – in the same fish pool, there are four fibre-glass boats for trips, either rowed by guests or by local community members.
