Hidden deep in the Guatemalan jungle are these two remote Mayan archaeological sites, offering wonderfully maintained ruins.

Aguateca lies close to the Petexbatún Lagoon and is shrouded in mystery and intrigue, with some ruins dating back to the 7th century. The surrounding jungle is home to an abundance of wildlife and the small site is reached via narrow waterways. El Ceibal (also known as Seibal) is a medium sized site which offers a number of interesting pyramids and buildings, plus intricate carvings and monuments, all of which offer clues to the lives and cultures of this magnificent civilisation.
