Santa Cruz provides a base from which you can explore the largest wine region in Chile, producer of an outstanding array of reds, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Carmenère.

A little over 100 miles south of the capital, Santa Cruz provides a base from which you can explore over 50,000 acres of vineyards in the Colchagua Valley. Dubbed 'the next Napa', Colchagua is a part of the larger Raphael Valley, the largest wine region in Chile. Its vines enjoy a largely Mediterranean climate, with bright sunshine, clear air and cool and crisp nights providing perfect conditions to create outstanding array of reds, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Carmenère.

The Ruta del Vino is a collection of seven vineyards, ranging from traditional to more modern, featuring cutting edge ecofriendly techniques and all are set in beautiful surrounds and offer highly educational tours. Of these, one of the very best is Viña Casa Silva - a fifth generation family vineyard with views across its own polo pitch and to the Andean mountains. It is also the most decorated Chilean winery in the 21st century.
