Chile's Lake District, in the Southern Central region, has been a magnet for European settlers since the 19th century, giving many of its towns an alpine feel with their wooden architecture and Germanic named local beers. The fertile countryside is punctuated by snow-capped volcanoes and brilliant emerald lakes, ideal for walking, hiking, horse riding and boat trips. The combination of the cool mountain air and the warm summer sunshine makes for a particularly refreshing and relaxing ambiance.
