Located in the northwest on the Pacific Ocean, Guanacaste is known for its warm climate, incredible bird watching, and excellent surfing, snorkeling and beaches.

The coast is indented with bays, peninsulas, and there are a significant number of protected areas, including coastal, mountainous, terrestrial, and aquatic ecosystems where life develops with exuberance.

Guanacaste's climate is in total contrast to the rest of the country. It is the driest region of Costa Rica, with a mixture of forests, beaches, extensive plains, and an impressive volcano range. From November through April, the plains receive no rain, but in wet season, everything turns green.

One of the most popular parts of this region is the Papagayo Peninsula, with 15 miles of coastline and 31 beaches. The area is relatively untouched, enabling a stay in a luxury resort, relaxation on a remote beach and treks inland exploring coastal rainforests.

The other most well-known resort is Tamarindo, famous for a lively beach-life, surfing and wide choice of restaurants.
