Sarapiqui is home to several nature reserves, rivers, protected areas and national parks and one of the last places to see the endangered Green Macaw

Located in the Northern lowlands, Alajuela is Costa Rica's second biggest city and an excellent base from which to visit the nearby Poas Volcano National Park and the La Paz Waterfalls Gardens.

Nearby Heredia Province in the Northern Lowlands is an region of incredible biodiversity. The main attraction is  Sarapiqui, where you can take a trip on the river and observe the endangered Green Macaw in one of several reserves including Braulio Carrillo National Park, La Selva Biological Station and the Tapiria Wildlife Reserve.
