Bali's cultural heartland offers stunning scenery, a peaceful ambience and many activities and entertainment to enjoy.

Ubud is located about one and a half hours drive from Denpasar Airport and is Bali’s most culturally interesting destination. There are many temples, scenic walks, museums, art galleries, craft shops, local markets, restaurants and cultural activities, rituals and performances you can easily stay at least 3 nights  here. Perhaps the most alluring aspect to Ubud is the sheer beauty of the town and surrounding countryside of terraced paddy fields, all lush and green in the sloping hills.

Ubud has an excellent range of hotels and lodges to suit all budgets. Most offer spa, massage and holistic wellness treatments that are a hallmark of the town. Yoga and meditation are also popular.

Outside your lodgings, there is much to explore and enjoy. The town is full of shops, cafes and local life. Ubud is famous for its authentic Balinese cuisine, with many restaurants to pick from using fresh local ingredients. Other activities include yoga classes, local dance classes and meditation sessions for travellers. Local markets are also a must, where you can enjoy a jolly haggle for the locally produced arts, crafts and other souvenirs.

It is well worth seeing a dance performance, of which there are many on offer each night. The beautiful Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung) also has dance performances, as well as art exhibitions and guides who will bring the ancient history of Bali to life. Other attractions in the town are the Neka Art Museum, and many types of classes including learning batik printing and wood carving.

Nearby you can take a guided walk or cycle ride to the scenic rice terraces and visit local villages. Perhaps enjoy a cooling swim at the Tegenungan Waterfall or visit the ancient archaeological site of Goa Gajah.

The best time to visit Ubud is April to August when the weather is dryer and warm (averaging about 27°C during the day). It can still rain during these months, but the showers are short and quite refreshing. In October to March, the rain is more frequent, but it is a good time to visit as prices are lower.
