Contrast the salt flats, geysers and moonscapes of the arid north with the lakes, glaciers and temperate forests of Patagonia.

Chile is a country defined by its diverse landscapes, which range from the pristine lakes, towering peaks and glaciers of Patagonia to the huge rock formations and geysers of its arid north, via the lush Andean vineyards of the Central Valley.

One of the most iconic images of Chile is that of the the distinctive ‘Los Cuernos’ horn-shaped peaks in the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, one of the best national parks anywhere in the world, particularly for hiking enthusiasts. Both north and south of here you can embark on expedition cruises to immense remote glaciers. Northern Patagonia is dominated by the Chile's Lake District, an outstanding area of natural beauty, whose glistening lakes, verdant forest and European style towns give it a distinctly alpine feel.

Heading north, Chile's central region is charactarised by its pristine vineyards, especially those clustered around the capital Santiago and in the Santa Cruz wine region. The spectacular Atacama Desert spreads out across the north of the country, famed for its cinematic rock formations, vast salt flats, flamingo-filled lagoons and billowing geysers, in total contrast to the landscape experienced in the south.
